'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the nail-biting final moments of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles following the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range shot from outside the box, and the defender immediately slammed home the loose ball before sprinting toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with the crowd swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an extraordinary recovery given Swansea had been behind 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result booked a upcoming fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's volley from about way out going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that far out," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they always find their target and they understand how to control and slow down a game. You can think you're all right and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even noticing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and focus just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at his former club and has quickly replicated that in Wales. At Orient he linked up again with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford City, before he departed Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that development for club and country, performing well for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including two matches games against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

His sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a long trip and it was cold out there," he comments, grinning. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How hard was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "It was quite easy, because I reached the point where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, Ronald, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to interact with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one to stop using the bus and on the road. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
