Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior representative said the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
